Bringing More FUN to Dynamic Balance

Frogs/toys from the dollar store can be used in many different balance activities. We previously discussed how they could be used for static balance, but now we will give you some dynamic balance activities using the same equipment. We don’t have room in our cars for all this junk, so using the same equipment for multiple activities is a big plus!

Activity #1:  Stepping Over Objects

Picture
Begin my making a line out of your frogs/toys on the floor.  Have your patient walking a step over each of the frogs on the floor. Make sure to leave enough space between each of the frogs for the patient to get a couple steps.

Activity #2:  Weaving Around Objects
Using the same set up as activity #1, have your patient ambulate while weaving around all of the objects on the floor. This can be repeated for as many repetitions as you would like. When the frogs are closer together it increases the difficulty.

Activity #3:  Side Stepping Over Objects
With the object still placed in a line on the floor, have the patient side step over the objects until they reach the end. Once again you can complete as many repetitions as you would like.

Hope that you try out some of these simple balance techniques in your practice!!
